2018- Year of disasters!
While the Mid Atlantic states had Florence and flooding, Massachusetts had unprecedented natural gas explosions and fires, and California and the west coast are still battling wildfires, the firefighters at CVFD are staying vigilant to what may come next. We have our share of automatic alarms, CO calls and MVAs, but you never know what may come next. Recent incidents have included car fire, Dive Team searches, Mutual Aid structure fires, MVA rollovers and Hazardous Conditions. We have sent firefighters to formal training in use of ResQJacks for vehicle stabilization, formal Firefighter Training for new recruits, Animal Rescue handling for volunteers, Nalozone Training for opioid overdoses, and have recently completed building a Confined Space simulator for practicing search and rescue techniques and rescuing trapped firefighters. The NY Airshow is in town and we are there on standby with several other local emergency responders in the event the worst were to happen.
It all starts with the general public. Are you prepared for a disaster? The Red Cross and FEMA have excellent suggestions and checklists to use for any type of disaster. We must all help ourselves overcome the destruction left by disasters since there will not always be someone there to help! Do you have what it takes to become a first responder to help those in need? Feel free to stop by and see what its all about.
