Early Morning Fire in Cronomer Valley
Cronomer Valley Fire Department responded to a report of smoke in a residence at 2 Stillwater Lane called in by the owner’s son, OC Legislator Leigh Benton at 1:08am on April 18, 2020. CVFD Car 2 reporting a working structure while enroute and called for a second alarm assignment. An elderly male occupant was assisted out on arrival. He had awoke to smoke condition and smoke detectors were not operating. Automatic response for a structure fire came from Middlehope FD, Plattekill FD, and Coldenham FD FAST Team to assist CVFD Engine and Ladder on scene with heavy fire throughout second floor of two-story residence. Second alarm assignment had CVFD, Good Will FD and Stewart ANG to scene with additional equipment, Town of Newburgh EMS for rehab and medical standby, and Central Hudson for a power cut. NYS Troopers and Town of Newburgh PD on scene with OC Car-13 and Town of Newburgh Fire Investigator for assistance. The cause of the fire is under investigation and appears to be an electrical short.
Chief Juan Moreno called for additional backup from Winona Lake Eng. Co. and Marlboro Fire Dept. to standby for any additional alarms. Firefighting efforts were hampered due to hoarding conditions and an electrical line burning through the wall in the rear of the building. The fire was brought under control in approximately one and a half hours. Overhaul of the building was extensive due to amount of contents in the building. No injuries were reported.
