Early Morning Structure Fire
Cronomer Valley FD responded to a reported house on fire at 2:11 am on Wednesday, March 10th,2021. CVFD Chiefs and Town of Newburgh PD units on scene of 271 Fostertown Road reported smoke showing from second floor of a multiple family dwelling and occupants were out of the building. Cronomer Valley, Middlehope and Good Will FDs on first alarm assignment attacked the fire in the second floor bedroom and brought it under control within minutes. A second alarm was sounded for additional Mutual Aid as backup from Plattekill, Mobile Life Support, and Coldenham’s Fast Team. Central Hudson was called for a power cut. CVFD Chief Dorrmann and Town of Newburgh Fire Investigator Matina determined the cause of the fire to be accidental.
Seven people were displaced due to smoke and fire damage. There were no reported injuries. Units overhauled the room and contents to ensure the fire was out. The building occupant had admitted a candle started the fire. This enforces our stance that candles should not be left unattended and be monitored so that the wax and flames do not spread out of a non-combustible holder. Units were clear of the scene at 3:50am.
