Fire Prevention Week 2023
Historically we celebrate Fire Prevention Week on the week of October 8th that symbolized the historical Great Chicago Fires in 1871. In 1925 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed Fire Prevention Week to be observed nationally and has been ever since. Cronomer Valley Fire Department will be making their annual visit to Fire District schools during that week, so be sure to look for us. This year’s National Fire Protection Association theme for Fire Prevention is “Cooking Safety Starts with You, Pay Attention to Fire Prevention”. In addition to smoke detector operation and escape plans, we will be stressing safety in the kitchen since unattended cooking is the leading cause of fires and deaths in the home. We ask that everyone take the time this week to discuss fire prevention in the home and as always check your detectors to make sure they are working. Review some tips to use around the kitchen below.
