Frost on Windshield
It’s that time of year again…. cold, wind, snow and waking up to frost on the windshield! Those of us who have a garage that is full or have to leave vehicles outside will be at risk. If we don’t take the time to warm up the car and defrost the windshield, we’re asking for trouble. How often have you seen that guy driving down the road with his head out the window? Then there’s the guy who has a peep hole that he scraped about the size of a hand! As firefighters we urge our members to cover their windshield with something that can be removed easily so we can get down the road quickly to respond to the fire station. Some members heat the vehicle with a small electric heater to keep medical bags from freezing. None the less, if we drive with limited visibility or into the sun rising, we can be blinded and unable to drive.
I have suggested covers and heaters, but also recommend having windshield washer fluid that has built-in antifreeze solution that can assist you during warmup and defrosting. It’s also usefull when it gets below zero and freezing sleet persists. Now is the time to prepare before you get caught without it. Stay safe and Happy Holidays to all.
