Outdoor Burn extends to Garage and Home in Cronomer Valley
Cronomer Valley Fire Dept responded to a reported garage fire at 62 Mountain View Ave. at 3:45pm on Tuesday, February 26th, 2019. CVFD Car 2 arrived on scene at 3:49pm to a fully involved two car garage that was impinging on the two-story house. Automatic Mutual Aid sounded a Fast Team from Newburgh FD and Tanker from Stewart ANG to scene as well as an Engine and Tanker from Plattekill FD as second and third alarms were sounded.
Mutual Aid from Middlehope FD, Coldenham FD, Wallkill FD, Orange Lake, Winona Lake and Vails Gates FAST Team responded to the scene. Walden FD, Cornwall-On-Hudson FD and Goodwill FD backfilled standbys. TONVAC and Mobile Life Support provided EMS standby. Central Hudson was called for a power cut. TON Fire Inspectors Office and TON PD were called for Investigation. No injuries were reported and residents were out of the buildings on arrival.
As a tanker task force was put into operation and additional crews were summoned, the fire had entered the attic of the residence and was fanned by 20mph winds. Crews on scene tried to stop the advancing fire in the residence with exterior handlines and were met with strong resistance. The fire was brought under control within an hour with 4 lines, but the house and garage were a total loss.
The fire is still under investigation. Preliminary reports listed open burning outside near the garage with strong winds as the cause of the fire as well as a semi-attached breezeway that connected the garage to the residence. It is illegal to have open burning in the Town of Newburgh. Photos courtesy of Mike Mushlit.
