CVFD Training Site Expands
You may have noticed recent activity on the CVFD training site. We are proud to announce the erection of our new Draeger Burn Building. The burn building will allow CVFD firefighters to get annual proficiency training performing live fire training right at home in the fire district. This training was previously conducted at the Orange County Fire Training Center in New Hampton, NY. Travel time to and from the facility restricted time that was spent on actual training and had to be scheduled and coordinated far in advance with the other 52 county departments.
The burn building is constructed of metal containers that are configured to rooms, doors, windows and common areas you would find in a residence. With actual house fires in the Fire District at an all-time low, our firefighters do not get the required experience to stay on top of their training. This building will allow us to conduct live firefighting training under safely controlled conditions. The building also is designed to provide hands-on skills training that every firefighter needs to practice such as bailout training, roof and window ventilation, laddering, search procedures and forced entry.
We wish to thank our fire district residents for providing us this resource so we can serve you better. We also would like to take this opportunity to remind our residents that we are 100% volunteer membership. We are always looking for residents who are up to the task of protecting your community and joining our family. Below are pictures of the new building being erected.
